Vatican Declines to Join "Board of Peace for Gaza"

The Vatican will not participate in the proposed group "Board of Peace for Gaza", which is linked to U.S. President Donald Trump. This announcement was made by Secretary of State Pietro Cardinal Parolin after a bilateral meeting with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at Palazzo Borromeo today.
According to Ansa.it, Cardinal Parolin said the Holy See has perplexities about critical aspects of the initiative that require clarification. "What is important is that efforts are being made to provide a response, but for us, there are issues that need to be resolved," he stated.
Cardinal Parolin believes such matters should be addressed within the United Nations framework.
A previous concern was the absence of Palestinian leadership. Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, criticized the plan as "a colonialist operation."
Italy will participate in the group as an observer.
